Wi-Fi is the wireless network technology that allows laptops and PDAs to connect to the Internet at hi-speed without the use of wires. It works in ways similar to a cordless phone, in that your laptop or PDA need to be within several hundred feet of a base station. This is the same technology and gear used in more than 2.5 million homes in the U.S. to create wireless home networks.

Thousands of public-access points called "hot spots" are springing up worldwide. These can mostly be found in coffee shops, bookstores, airports and hotels. With a wireless network card in your laptop or PDA you can go into any of these hot spots and access the internet at hi-speed. While some of these are free to use, others charge a fee.

This is yet another technology that is literally changing where and how people can work!
